'doh!

He finally did it, after 2+ years of reading and lurking in Megatokyo, I'm going to break down and buy the books. I have been on the fringe for a while, its 'bout time I did. Feel like I'm missing out and a full read of the whole thing would do me good.

The fact that he's pulling in a backstory from 2003 that has its roots further back has got me really intrigued. I don't know how much was planned and how much was random regurgitation, but the fact that he has the treads of the tapestry tied that far back is pretty impressive.

Good job. Looking forward to more.

On April 16th, 2005 a Star Wars fan film was released that upped the ante on fan film production values everywhere. Star Wars: Revelations takes place during the period known as "The Great Purge." It is the time between the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Rebellion (Episodes 3 and 4). It is the time when all remaining Jedi where hunted down and extinguished by the Emperor and Darth Vader.

Studio Summary:
(From Star Wars: Revelations Website)

"Revelations" is a non-profit Star Wars fan film that was shot within the Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC Metro Area. "Revelations" is made possible through a combined effort of artists, fans and the local film industry. Everyone who has worked on "Revelations" is a volunteer. No one is paid to make this film. Panic Struck Productions set out to produce their first independent film with a very small budget and the result is "Revelations"

The goal has always been to push the limit of independent film making and show what can be done with a dedicated cast/crew, the vision of Panic Struck Productions, and the affordable solutions in today's market in terms of film and video. We also wanted to showcase the large pool of talented individuals who are out there and show how an independent film such as Revelations can push the limit of small Hollywood.

Panic Struck Productions has formed a strong and committed team in producing a high caliber fan film. With a CG team spanning the globe as well as a cast and crew from all over the east coat and beyond, the effort for Revelations has been huge. From cast to crew, extras to sponsors, this movie was made possible by those who have supported the idea and dedicated so much to the film.

"Revelations" is dedicated to the fans, artists, believers, and dreamers of a galaxy far far away... Panic Struck Productions offers you "Revelations". We hope you enjoy the efforts of our work.

Director - Shane Felux

I have been an avid reader of Megatokyo for a while now - and I have to say, I am really pleased with the direction the story has taken in the past few weeks. Romance is heating up, conflict is brewing, and the artwork just keeps getting better.

For those that don't know, Megatokyo is the story of a couple of American geeks who, after getting drunk at E3 a few years ago, decided to hop a plane and go off to Japan. After gaining access to the country via a MortalKombat Visa, Piro (the nice one) and Largo (the crazy l337 dude) find themselves stranded with no money and no way home. Hilarity ensues.

Also, you can blame Megatokyo at least in part for the proliferation of l337 sp33k... gotta love those t-shirts.

After starting this as a hobby, Fred Gallagher started writing Megatokyo full time a few years ago - and is truly living his dream as an American Manga artist. The comic is published online every Monday, Wednesday and Friday... and the first few years are published in book-format from Darkhorse. His website is great, he publishes his own rants along with Dom, one of his cronies. It is on my must-see website list every week.

Use the coupon code "berserk" at Rightstuf and get 33% off (see post below) on Megatokyo, Volume 1; Megatokyo, Volume 2; Megatokyo, Volume 3.

There is a new Star Wars spoof that was just released and it is very good. N. T. Bullock at SequentialPictures.com has created Star Wars Episode III: A Lost Hope. This fanfilm is one of the best I have seen. It has great production values, a good script, and nice effects. It runs about 7 Minutes and is rated PG-13 by the creator. Go check it out.

Man oh man, sometimes there comes along a bit that is too good not to share. I had this sent to me earlier today from a buddy of mine out on the west coast. Gregg & Evan Spiridellis over at www.jibjab.com came up with this nice little bit of satire. Now I promise not to delve too much into the political arena in my rants, but this makes fun of both sides of the fence… and is, in my opinion, a classic example of good Web animation. A parody of Woody Guthrie's "This Land," these boys have pitted our two presidential candidates against one another in a melodious dual. Great work.

There can be a problem with popularity though… it can be difficult to keep your site up if the world learns of your successes. Even the mirror at Atomflims is dead at this point.
