Ok, I just got done watching Tom Goes to the Mayor on Cartoon Network. I have to say, I didn't get it. I may have not been in the right mindset to watch it, and I can see how this could be a quotable show, but I just was not all that thrilled with it. The best part of the show was that it had Jack Black in it, but that is not saying much. It was still-frame photo animation, choppy, blocky and blue with odd voice-overs.

I may give it another shot, but I think I'll pass on this one.

You say you want a revolution? Well, you know...
We all want to change the world.

I know I have covered this ground a little before, but this show just continues to impress me. Warner Brothers animation seems to have found the correct balance between camp and creativity in this wonderfully animated show.

teentitans2_800.jpgLet’s just look back on the last couple of seasons, shall we? We have seen them spoof everything from Anime to American Graffiti… the style and substance they put forth in this series just floors me every time I watch it.

Back in focus… let’s look at this episode of Revolutions for example. The Titans come up against and old Brit nemesis, Mad Mod, who decides he want to make the Titan’s city forget the American Revolution ever happened and turn the city (what we assume is San Francisco) into some black and white version of London. What ensues is a mix of hilarity that references Patton, The Holy Grail, the Yellow Submarine, and for the sake of sanity, perhaps a little of Benny Hill... are you kidding me?

The black-and-white photograph setting in this episode is something I have seen done in Anime time and time again… once again this show shows its eastern influence in a western picture.

I actually thought this episode was going to be second one to fall flat with me. (Ironically, the first episode I ever saw I did not like and considered not watching the show as a result. Thank goodness I changed my mind.) However, the more I watched, the more I enjoyed. They proved me wrong again… and for once I don’t mind being wrong.

Bottom line, Teen Titans shows a lot more depth to it than most of the American “cartoons” that are showing on Cartoon Network.

Of course, if you want the first season on DVD, here is the link…. Amazon
